Carlyss, LA – On Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 8am- 5pm, Lewis Middle School will be hosting their 1st Calcasieu Parish Vex Robotics tournament on their campus in Sulphur, LA. Sixteen teams will be competing and collaborating in an elimination-style exhibition. The day will follow Vex traditional formatting even though it will not be an officially sanctioned match. For several of the teams, this will be their debut competition as Vex is still new to our part of the state.
For those of us who don’t know what Vex is, it is a competition for elementary through university students , wherein they are given a yearly challenge, and must design, build, program, and drive a robot to complete the challenge as best as they can. For more information on Vex, go to www.vexrobotics.com
With so many of the attending teams being new to competing, and the Vex program openly encouraging teams to share knowledge, strategies, and designs they will greatly benefit from having a couple of heavily seasoned groups coming in to show them what they have to look forward to when they attend their first sanctioned competitions. For this event, two teams from New Delhi, LA., who have won the state Vex robotics competition and are bound for the World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, will be in attendance so our local teams can see what national level competition robots (and their journals detailing everything they’ve done mechanically and programming- wise with the robots) are made of.
